Argon 18’s Electron C track bike does for the banked oval what most of their bikes do for the road. It’s high-tech, carbon, track bike that is versatile and good at every pursuit.
If you look at the numbers, you’ll see a bike that is built for velodromes, not the road. At the same time, it combines a steep seat angle with a relaxed head angle and moderate front-center numbers to make high-speed handling easy and precise.
The monocoque carbon frame is aero and low slung. The fork has long blades that barely disturb the wind. The seat post is aero. And with the 3D head tube, you can easily set the bike up for a pursuit or points race, and both the less- and more-flexible can fit on the same size.
The frame is aero. The head tube, hiding an 11/8” steerer fork, is narrow at the front end. The top and down tubes are shaped for aerodynamics and rigidity. The seat tube and low seat stays help shroud the rear wheel, hiding it from the wind. The proprietary seat post has a reversible clamp, allowing you to choose between 15 and 20mm of setback.
The 3D head tube system is unique to Argon 18 and sets the company apart. Rather than situating the stem atop a stack of spacers, never the most rigid or confidence-inspiring, they have designed press-fit elements that sit atop the head tube. These effectively extend the head tube 15 and 25mm, as the upper headset race sits just inside the upper lip of the extension. By having a wider extension and the bearing contact point extended upward, stiffness is increased in all directions, great for, well, everything. There’s no downside to increased stiffness on the track.
The rear fork tips are carbon thanks to the manufacturing process. However, they are protected by stainless steel covers so that it’s nearly impossible to over tighten them. To further the security of the wheel position, they also include adjustable chain tensioner bits, which allow you to set the wheel position before you clamp down on the axle nuts.
The Argon 18 Electron C can handle the loads of sprinting, slice though the air in a pursuit, and take advantage of everything in mass start events.
