The Pinarello Bolide TR+ is Pinarello’s triathlon specific machine, inspired by their Bolide TT time trial bike. The goal was to make accommodate the needs of triathlete with a similar design without losing any speed. Without having to adhere to UCI regulations, Pinarello was able to push the limits and create an incredibly fast and aerodynamic tri bike. Pinarello altered the geometry of their fastest bike to suit it to the needs of triathletes. The headtube length was increased by 35mm compared to the TT. This provides an exhausted triathlete with increased ergonomics for a more comfortable ride. It also improves stability and rigidity. On the Bolide TR+, the bottom bracket was moved down 8mm for a lower center of gravity, giving its rider even more stability and pedaling power. Moving the seat tube angle forward by 78 degrees has a similar effect on pedaling efficiency.
Freedom from UCI standards opened the door for Pinarello to push the limits in terms of aerodynamics. Spending hours on end testing this bike in the CFD simulator helped engineers come up with optimal frame shape. Average wind speed and dynamics from previous Kona races were used in these simulations to tailor this bike toward the most prestigious races. This resulted in in a concave downtube and a sloping top tube. A longer fork creates better air flow around the frame while simultaneously improving your handling ability. Topped off with internal cable management, there is nothing on this bike that will succumb to the threat of the wind.
The Pinarello Bolide TR+ is designed to specifically meet all the needs of a triathlete. Easy of assembly and disassembly is massive for a rider who travels often and your Bolide can be disassembled with just a few simple tools. In the frame, you will find storage boxes for nutrition on both the top and downtubes. These flat boxes integrate into the frame to keep the aero nature of the bike.
