In order to make the Zero.7 frameset as light as possible, Wilier specifies at the factory whether the frame is for mechanical or electronic shifting. This version is for electronic. The benefit is a lighter frame. No bigger holes, no extra bits, no pieces that need to be added or removed.  The yield will be a sub fifteen-pound bike.  You can probably get it under thirteen with the right wheels.  

 

Lightness is what the Zero.7 is about. Everything about the frame was looked at with a focus on weight saving, and it shows. This is a sub-800g frame, how sub depending on the size. They employ 60-Ton high modulus carbon-fiber. They deploy their new BB386EVO bottom bracket standard. They have a tapered 1 1/8" to 1 1/4" steerer; conventional stem, light crown, great tracking on hard turns. The chain stays are asymmetric, with the right side beefier and curved, for better resisting chain-created forces, and the left slimmed a bit to keep the weight to a minimum. There's a front derailleur hanger to save you the weight of a clamp. The seat tube is a standard round 31.6mm and comes with a carbon-fiber Ritchey Superlogic seat post, finished in Wilier graphics.

 

Many features that help save weight also translate into stiffer bikes. Wilier wants this to be a road bike capable of comfortably handling Grand Tours, classics, and even gran fondos. As a result, they employ slim seat stays. And a geometry that is balanced for all terrain.

 

And then they go a step further, adding Special Elastic Infiltrated (SEI) film between many of the layers. SEI works in a few ways. One is it increases comfort by damping vibration. Another is that it reduces the need for mid-modulus carbon, reducing weight. And it increases impact resistance, meaning it's more crash-worthy. Not that you'll ever crash.

 

As indicated at the top, this is the electronic shifting version. There's an intake port for the wire on the down tube, exit ports on the seat tube and seat stay, and an external battery mount under the down tube. If you want to run mechanical shifting, go for the mechanical version.

 

The Zero.7 has seen action in the WorldTour. It's the climber's choice, but it also has seen its share of cobblestone classics. It's an all-around race bike, one that just happens to be super light.
